FUZION to CAV

Notes by Nevereverend Slaine Fullerton, 2002

Well, similar to my old Fuzion BattleTech notes, here are guidelines for integrating Reaper Miniatures' CAV war-game with Fuzion.

CAV uses four generic classifications for Pilots and Wizzos (Weapon Skill Officers). These four classifications are:

Each category equates to a different experience "level"; the better an officer is, the more that officer impacts upon various activities. For example, in the CAV game, an experienced Wizzo adds a bonus to ECM and target lock checks. Each level offers a bonus, excepting regular, which allows a straight die roll. CAV assumes that the truly inexperienced and untrained have no place on the battlefield, and does not provide stats for such people.

However, this plug-in will cover the inexperienced and incompetent as well as the Ace, the best of the best. Hence a fifth classification will be added, Green.

In CAV terms, the levels provide the following modifiers:

Fuzion skill AV's are the easiest means to illustrate a comparison. Assuming the average Regular officer has a Primary Characteristic of 4 and is fairly well trained in the relevant skills, for a skill value of 4. Thus, assuming a Regular officer to have a total AV of 8 gives us a starting point. Using Instant Fuzion, the Combat characteristic value determines the relevant stat for both Pilot and Weapon Skill Officer; using Full (Total) Fuzion, the Pilot uses DEX, whereas the Wizzo uses TECH. Add the characteristic to the appropriate skill, and consult the table below.

FUZION AV Total CAV Skill Category
Below 7 Green (-1)
7-9 Regular (0)
10-11 Veteran (+1)
12-13 Elite (+2)
14+ Ace (+3)

Using this table, a Fuzion character may be ported into a CAV wargame as either a Pilot or Weapon Skill Officer if desired.
